Homonyms Bingo Cards

A language game built on words that sound alike but mean different things. Students mark squares like bear, bare, knight, and night as you call clues, sharpening their ear for tricky spellings and meanings.

Free to design and print · edit any square · 3×3, 4×4, or 5×5

Homonyms bingo fits a spelling unit, a vocabulary review, or an ESL lesson on tricky sound-alike words. Start from the schoolhouse template, keep the word squares below or add your own pairs, and you have cards ready to print in a couple of minutes.

Because every card is shuffled from the same square list, no two students get the same grid, so the whole class can review the same word pairs while each child works from a unique card.

Ideas for your game
  • Call the meaning, not the word

Read a clue like a large furry animal and have students find the matching homonym, so they practice meaning and spelling at the same time.

  • Use it for spelling practice

Pause when a square is marked and ask students to use both words in sentences, reinforcing which spelling goes with which meaning.

  • Print cards or play on screens

Print a class set, or share one link and a QR code so students mark squares on tablets while you call clues from the front.

Editable and printable

Edit every square. Open the card in the editor, keep the suggested squares or replace them with your own words, emoji, or photos, and pick a theme that fits the day.

Print a whole set at once. Each card is shuffled from the same square list, so every player gets a unique grid. Print to standard letter or A4 paper on any home printer — or order professionally printed cards shipped to your door.

Or play live. Share one link and a QR code and the whole room plays from their phones, in person or over video.

Questions

How do I make homonyms bingo for free?

Open the editor, pick the schoolhouse theme, keep the suggested word pairs or add your own, and print. A basic class set costs nothing to make.

What grade level is this best for?

It suits upper-elementary through middle school and ESL learners, and you can swap in easier or harder pairs to match your students' level.

Are these true homonyms?

The cards use common sound-alike pairs that classrooms call homonyms or homophones, and you can edit the list to fit how your lesson defines them.

Can the whole class play at once?

Yes. Each card is shuffled from the same list, so every student gets a unique grid while you review the same set of word pairs together.
